Welcome To Cultural Mismatch In Education
This professional development curriculum is designed to help educators increase their level of cultural competency. Cultural competency will be needed if teachers are going to be better prepared to interact with an ever increasing level of student diversity, particularly in the public school system.
When teachers aren’t familiar with the culture of their students or for that matter the community in which they teach, there is a greater chance for cultural mismatch to occur. When cultural mismatch does occur and left unaddressed it can increase to a toxic level if educators are unable or unwilling to communicate with their students and in fact treat their students as the unknown or even as adversaries.
We offer a series of professional development tools designed to help educators better understand the long standing historical, economic and social factors which contribute to cultural mismatch and provide solutions to guide educators to achieving better outcomes as they engage in an increasingly diverse population.
